The Boys and Girls Clubs of Oxnard and Port Hueneme operate an after-school program at Mar Vista Elementary School. There are currently 85 students enrolled in the program.
A concise description about the programs run for the month of February include:
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count
A comprehensive homework help and tutoring program, POWER HOUR is designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members ages 6 to 12. Power Hour provides members with the support, resources and guidance necessary to complete their homework and start the school day with a sense of confidence and ability.
Youth for Unity
This program educates students about the importance of tolerance and diversity. The program is designed to educate members ages 6 to 12.This program will help members appreciate and understand our society's diversity, recognize unfairness and take personal leadership in confronting bias.
Manadoob
It is a connection program that enhances self-esteem in an edutainment program for kids. The program targets 4thand 5th graders and provides 28 chapters with over 80 lessons and activities. The Manadoob are an odd bunch of magical, misfit animals who will help kids discover that belief in themselves is the most important gift they can ever receive. They can face their fears and worries; be strong and successful; and achieve what they want in their life.
Merito Academy
The Channel Islands Multicultural Education for Resources Issues Threatening Oceans it is a hands-on marine and environmental education program geared for students who reside in Ventura or Santa Barbara Counties. The goal of the Merito academy is to provide high quality, sustainable science programming integrating Earth and Ocean sciences into 4th to 8th grade level public education and extended learning programs resulting in the active contribution to ocean protection by educated and engaged youth.
